Live Earth
Concerts for a climate in crisis

The Live Earth event on the 7th of July 2007 attracted a worldwide audience of 2 billion people, making it one of the largest global events in history. Spearheaded by former Vice President of the United States Al Gore and other activist celebrities, Live Earth showcased 150 of the worlds most popular artists and raise awareness of arguably the greatest threat facing mankind today.

In one of the biggest challenges in her career, Emer was engaged as Broadcast Producer for the Live Earth London show, staged at the newly relaunched Wembley Stadium. The role involved interfacing between the event production and the British host broadcaster (BBC) and international media.

Nick Wickham directed the coverage of the Sydney Live Earth show for Foxtel in Australia.

Kevin Wall, Live Earth’s Executive Producer, has this to say about Splinter’s involvement:

“I began my relationship with Emer through our work on Live 8 two years ago. Splinter has been instrumental in the co-ordination and production of some of Control Room’s most high-profile live shows in the U.K and Europe, including: John Legend, Foo Fighters, Pussycat Dolls, Kings of Leon, and more. This summer, we’ve included Splinter in our most aggressive music campaign to date, Live Earth. I’m thrilled to have Emer producing the broadcast of the Live Earth Wembley show, and to have Nick in the director’s hot seat for Live Earth Sydney.”

Emer's Biography

Emer’s career started in publishing and public relations before a relocation from her native Dublin to London (via Brussels – don’t ask!) and a job at MTV creating factual programming and multi-camera performance films & documentaries. At MTV Emer actively championed the work of the music charity War Child and, using her contacts in the industry, co-ordinated CD shipments to devastated Bosnian radio stations which had no access to new music during the Bosnian conflict. A piece on Live Aid: Ten Years Later was shortlisted for several awards.

Since establishing Splinter with Nick Wickham in 1997, Emer’s reputation as a world class producer has grown exponentially, with production expertise across a huge range of formats and environments. She is the first point of contact at the company for all clients, and either produces or executive produces all of the company’s output. With a hand-picked production team around her, Emer has expanded the company to represent James Russell and Blue Leach. She runs the company with an unwaivering commitment to delivering the best possible results each and every time.

Along the way, Splinter’s work with R.E.M. has been shortlisted for the prestigious Peabody Award For Excellence in Journalism, and curated by the US Museum of TV & Radio in New York and Los Angeles. In 2005 Nick Wickham was honoured as Best Director at the Total Production International Awards for his pioneering work on the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ 2004 European Tour, which Emer produced. In 2006, 3 of Splinter’s directors were nominated for the Best TV/DVD Director Award at the CAD Awards, which ultimately Nick Wickham won. In 2007 Blue Leach was named Best Live Director at the TPI Awards, while two Splinter releases are amongst the final six at this year’s CAD Awards for Best DVD (Foo Fighters “Skin & Bones” (Hyde Park) and The Black Eyed Peas “Live From Sydney To Vegas”).
